Course Overview
LeapEd’s Child Protection and Safeguarding professional development programmes raise awareness of the best practice and build skillsets for all adults who work with children and young people.
We are dedicated to upholding the safeguarding and welfare of all children and young people. Our framework is aligned to: United Nations Child Rights’ conventions, Malaysian government legislation, international best practices by UNICEF and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This course is advanced level training for a small group of Senior Leaders or participants who are actively involved in decision making. Each course will be modified to include contextualized examples, for discussion and include ample opportunity for considering organizational responses when a child is in danger.
*In preparation for this we request access to your companies Policy, Procedures and Guidelines at least 2 weeks before the commencement of the course.
Objectives:
- This course is designed for organisations that are just getting started with Child Protection and Safeguarding, or for those newly in Malaysia to the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- This initial workshop will answer key questions about the legal implications of the DSL role in Malaysia, and signpost participants to organisations that will help them on their Safeguarding journey.
We will explore:
- What is the role of a Designated Safeguarding Lead and why is it important?
- How do effective policy, procedure, and clear guidelines keep children safe when in the care of your organisation?
- How can a Designated Safeguarding Lead raise the profile of Child Protection and Safeguarding within their organisation?

Meet your trainers
Rajveen Kaur

Rajveen holds a degree in English and Education, a Postgraduate degree in Commerce, and a Master’s in International Business Management from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Moving internationally, her focus in teaching and learning was at the Turkish Ulugbek International School and the Westminster International University in Uzbekistan. As a teacher and lecturer, she was involved in a variety of language teaching initiatives to a range of age levels encompassing professional writing, IELTS preparation and national checkpoint assessments, both at the school and tertiary stages, applying her CELTA qualification.
Rajveen is an HRDF certified trainer and an ACP certified coach. She is further pursuing her ACC qualification with ICF (International Coaching Federation) where she is developing her skill set to nurture talent, unleash potential and support others in overcoming limiting self-beliefs and developing a Growth Mindset. Rajveen also holds a certification in Child Protection and Safeguarding and was part of the team that worked on the framework, policy, procedures and guidelines for safeguarding in LeapEd.
Hayley Trenchard

Hayley graduated from the University of Sheffield with a dual honours degree in English and History in 2004. She then trained to teach English as a Foreign Language, before taking on a role at an English Language Centre in China where she taught children aged 4 – 17 in basic communication and business English. While completing her PGCE in History from the University of Bristol, Hayley undertook research in Special Educational Needs, and approaches to supporting recently bereaved children. She also holds certification in teaching Personal, Social and Health Education.
Hayley holds a Level 3 certification in Child Protection & Safeguarding from the UK and has managed several high-level disclosures and concerns. As an ex-Principal of an International school, Hayley understands some of the difficulties in managing safeguarding and well-being within the Malaysian context and is well versed in the nuanced cultural differences and different approaches that are required when implementing international best practice to safeguard children
