Course Overview

This programme was developed for English Teachers to bridge the literacy and proficiency gap in the English classroom. Unlike other subjects, remedial English students are not given support out of the classroom, so teachers need specific skills and tools to ensure that ALL students in their classroom are learning, and not just those who are able to keep up with the curriculum. Using a range of diagnostic tools and pedagogical strategies, this programme helps teachers to identify the root cause of their students’ learning challenges, and then plan to address them.

Challenges:

  • Classrooms with a large number of mixed ability children
  • Teaching grammar and vocabulary to mixed ability classrooms
  • Knowing specific learning challenges for each student
  • Catering to all student needs in mixed ability classrooms
  • Finding level-appropriate learning materials outside of the textbook

Solutions:

  • Creating individual learning pathways through easy-to-use differentiation strategies
  • Tracking and monitoring student progress with ready-made tracking tools and techniques
  • Understanding how mixed ability classrooms work and planning to optimise student learning time
